ICU Visit.
I had another good day today, we went back to ICU for a little visit and I saw a few nurses that I recognised that looked after me.
I had a reason to get up and get my sort of glam on. We stopped off to get the staff Krispy Kreme donuts too, the one thing I’ve learnt is never turn up at a hospital empty handed. Those NHS workers are absolute legends, they are over worked and under paid. If me bringing a ray of sunshine into the ward in the form of tasty treats then that’s the least I can do. Unfortunately I can’t eat them myself now. They have skimmed milk powder in ALL of them, and I seem to have developed an intolerance to dairy since I’ve been home. Gutted! it’s confusing because the meal replacement drink I was getting in my nasal feeding tube was milk based, but then I wasn’t swallowing it, bypassing the bit it irritates, my throat.
It was surreal going back to the ward. I saw a fleeting glance of Alex as he whizzed by with a patient. I got a hello though. There was a few faces I recognised and I even got a hug. There were a couple of patients in the ward hooked up to all the machines, I was ok with it though as I feel like I’m used to seeing it.
Even the PPE at the time didn’t bother me, talking to Izzy we both feel like we have watched so much greys anatomy over the years that we don’t really find it that scary.
On a serious note, I owe those nurses and doctors my life. Without their hard work and dedication to a thankless job I would be in a box right now in as the kids used to call it ‘the gravy yard’ as they ran through it on the way to school.
I will forever be grateful for my second chance at life.
If your reading this, you wonderful lot, from the bottom of my heart I thank you, for my kids who got to keep their mum, and my husband who gets to cuddle his wife. At every life event I go through I will think of you and be thankful that you saved me so I could see whatever life is gifting me.
If I could give you the world 🌍 I would, but PIP doesn’t pay that much so you will have to make do with donuts 🍩 from me. Hopefully the government will get their arses in gear and sort out a decent pay rise soon. If anyone deserves it you do!
