Post 2, Covid For Christmas?

Updated: Aug 31, 2021

So I had everything ready, I had decided I was doing these turkey parcels for dinner, turkey breast stuffed with cranberry sauce and stuffing then wrapped in streaky bacon. My neighbour Had his son coming over to him but he had said in passing that he wasn’t bothered about cooking Christmas dinner since he lost his wife, me being me couldn’t stand the thought of that when we always have so many leftovers that I offered to plate them both up a Christmas meal each. That and I had catered for mum and dad too, until Boris put an end to that!!

The day was lovely. We were in lockdown so it was as just us. Martin and I watched crappy tv and the kids were glued to their gadgets. In the afternoon Izzy complained of a migraine which is nothing out of the ordinary and she fell asleep on the sofa. I started to feel shitty towards the end of the day but put that down to overdoing it with all the cooking!

Woke up Boxing Day feeling awful. Headache cough and temperature. Then William complained of the same, Izzy too. Oh shit it! I decided to order the dreaded Covid-19 tests off the government website.

We all did the tests, they all came back positive. I remember thinking oh well at least we’ve had it now, and Williams actually not that bad. Both kids came out of it pretty much unscathed other than the subsequent trauma. Martin hadn’t had symptoms yet…

As the week progressed the kids felt so much better. Nothing more than a normal winter cold really. I was so relieved about William coming through it. Unfortunately I was getting worse and worse. By new year I couldn’t sleep unless I had the fan directly on me in bed. I had every cold remedy going including vicks under my nose. By the 2nd January I told Martin I needed help. I was really wheezy, it felt like no air was going in. He rang 111 who promptly sent an ambulance. My blood oxygen was below 30! They said I shouldn’t be conscious let alone worrying about finding a bra, or packing a bag.

As the paramedics wheeled me out of the house I knew William was at the top of the stairs. By this time my energy had completely gone. I couldn’t even turn to look at him. I said to tell him I love him, I love them all. They had to stay home, I was on my own.

Then the next thing I know I’m in the back of the ambulance with blue lights and a siren. I remember wondering if Nigel Mansell had taken over the driving!!

When we got to the hospital I was rushed straight into the Covid unit in a&e . Ive only ever felt so scared once before in my life.

All I wanted was Martin and the kids.

I had an X-ray and was put on oxygen.

Then the doctor came over.
